Victor James Osimhen was born December 29, 1998 in Lagos State growing up in a place called Olusosun in the Ojota axis of Lagos. If anything, the place Osimhen grew up in was a very difficult and tough area.

Osimhen's football journey began from his time in the Olusosun Primary School and then he joined Ultimate Strikers Academy which is a local football academy in Lagos.

In 2015, Osimhen was selected to be a part of the U-17 World Cup. The tournament was held in Chile and he finished the tournament as the highest goal scorer scoring 10 goals which broke a long-standing record.

Professional Club Career

January 2017 was when Osimhen signed his first professional contract with Vfl Wolfsburg in Germany. 

Sadly, the time that he spent at the German side was difficult. He had to battle with injuries and could not be a consistent starter. 

He had to move to Charleroi in Belgium during the 2018/19 season and this was where he enjoyed a bit of consistency. Osimhen quickly regained his confidence turning into one of the most interesting young forwards in the German league.

After that season, Napoli came knocking and Victor Osimhen made the move to Italy becoming one of the most expensive African players in history. The transfer fee for Victor Osimhen was reported to be €70 million and with add-ons that could get as high as €80 million. 

It was at Napoli that Victor Osimhen became the world-class player he is. He played a crucial in the 2022/23 Serie A title that Napoli won which was their first Scudetto in more than three decades. His €130m release clause was not triggered by any top club despite interests from Arsenal and Chelsea and he was forced to go on a season long loan at Galatasaray before the Turkish team bought him for €75m in the summer of 2025. 

During his loan season, Victor Osimhen scored 26 Super Lig goals (a club record for a foreign player) and 36 goals in all competitions for the team helping them to a domestic double while also winning the GQ Türkiye Man of the Year award for 2025. 

International Career

Since 2015, Victor Osimhen has represented Nigeria on every level and now he represents the country at its highest level. 

He made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2017 but has not been able to bring any major trophy for his country except winning silver during the AFCON 2023 final which they lost to host nation, Ivory Coast and winning bronze in the AFCON 2025 3rd place beating Mo Salah’s Egypt. 

His role with Nigeria has earned him the African Player of the Year Award which he won in 2023 becoming the first Nigerian to win it since 1999 when legend Nwankwo Kanu won it.
